VIOLIN, VIOLA AND CELLO PROGRAMS

Children of any age may learn to play using the Suzuki method. The Society has classes for beginners under five years of age and separate classes for beginners aged five and over. There are no auditions, because all children can learn to play an instrument using the Suzuki method.

For the first semester of their Suzuki experience, students are assigned to small-sized classes that meet twice a week for one hour each. After the first semester, students are assigned to a private lesson teacher and a group class. The private lesson teacher meets with the student for a 30-minute lesson once a week; and the group class meets for one hour once a week. As students advance, they may secure longer private lesson times.
Parents attend lessons so that they can understand the learning process and feel secure as home-teachers. No previous music experience is required of parents.

Children listen daily to recordings of the Suzuki repertoire. Just as a child naturally learns to speak first and then learns to read, with Suzuki music lessons a child first learns to play and then learns to read music.
Regular group lessons provide children with the opportunity to learn from one another and the excitement of performing in a group. Throughout these and other Society programs, cooperation is encouraged rather than competition..
